Fuel Leak

Postby SlimReaper on Sat May 30, 2009 2:33 pm

So I cranked the Slim Reaper over yesterday and had noticed a pretty substantial fuel leak. I haven't turned it over in about 2 weeks. It appeared to be coming from the bottom of one or more of the carbs, but it was heavy enough to not be able to pin down the root of the problem. Fuel filter and lines appear to be OK. You can imagine my dissapointment because all I wanted to do was hop on and ride that bit©h. Thoughts?

Might be a stuck float needle in one or more of the carb float bowls. Try shutting off the gas, letting the bike run until it runs out of gas, then turning on the gas to flush out what was causing the float to stick.

Another thing it might be is the o-rings on the fuel tubes that go between the carbs. These dry rot out after a while and need to be replaced every now and then. You'll have to pull the carbs off and split them apart from the carb bank to fix that issue.

Let me know if you need a hand our need me to walk you through anything.

I cant seem to move the dial on the fuel flow. It's "seized" on "ON". Are you saying move it to the "OFF" position? Shouldn't be that difficult to turn right?

Pulling the carbs is definitely a little out of my league without some guidance. If the first solution doesn't work, I'll be bringing it in for some help for sure.

Thanks Mike!

Update us on the ride too when you get a chance!

Yeah, petcock shouldn't be that hard to turn, you should be able to move it easily while you are riding. So...you can either disconnect the fuel line and plug off the petcock to run the bike out of fuel, or pinch off the line to the carbs.

The race didn't go that great. One of the riders was involved in an accident and unfortunately, she didn't survive. I ended up turning around and helping out her boyfriend, so I didn't finish the race.
